This past Saturday we celebrated Krish's 5th birthday at home with a Dallas Mavericks-style birthday party! It was complete with homemade decorations, basketball game stations, a jersey cake, cookies, Cavalli Pizza, and a surprise visit from the Mavericks' mascot, Champ! Krish was so stoked to see his favorite team's mascot come celebrate with him, and the party was so much fun! It sure was a special day for him. We are so proud of our little boy and can't believe how fast he's growing up. Here are some fun pictures and videos from the event.

Krish is one lucky little boy! This year, he got to celebrate his big 5-year-old birthday in more ways than one! In addition to his Dallas Mavericks birthday party, his grandparents each took him to Chuck E. Cheese to celebrate on his actual birthday, and he had a wonderful celebration in his Pre-K class today with his teachers, Ms. Gio and Mrs. Shrestha, Daddy, Momma, Arjun, and all his classmates!
On Sunday, Nana, Nani, Dada, Dadi, and Tricia Masi took Krish to Chuck E. Cheese to celebrate his birthday right before they had to go back to Houston, and in the evening, Dada and Ba took him and Arjun there for dinner! The boys had a blast playing at a new location Chuck E. Cheese which had a lot more rides and games than we have usually seen.

At Krish's school, they have a tradition where the birthday boy or girl (in Pre-K or K) get to bake a birthday cake with a classmate and the Head of Lower School, Mrs. Barnes. Their Mommy and Daddy are invited and they get share their yummy cake with their classmates!
Today, Daddy, Momma and Arjun were very excited to surprise Krish in class and celebrate his birthday with his classmates! Krish was so happy to see us and enjoyed sharing a book he made about his birthday party and a Tyson Chandler bobble head gift he received from Champ, the Dallas Maverick mascot, with his classmates for a special birthday Show and Share. His classmates asked him questions about his story and each passed around the bobble head for a closer look. It was such a treat to get to witness this special moment in Krish's life!
We then sang Happy Birthday to Krish and enjoyed the delicious blue icing birthday cake with colorful sprinkles he baked with his friend Kate and Mrs. Barnes! We all had a great time, and Krish felt so special! It was truly heart-warming to get to share this time with him in his classroom and be a part of this wonderful tradition!

February is here and love is in the air! Not only is it Krish's birthday month (something he looks forward to all year long) and the month of Valentine's, but Krish has been learning in school that February is Kindness Month and that he should journal about one kind act he does each day. At the risk of sounding boastful, this is so great for Krish because he has been blessed with such a kind-hearted spirit and thoughtful nature. These inherent qualities in him make it easy to recognize the kind acts he engages in on a daily basis. For instance, before we even learned about what February represents, he asked me if he could write a Get Well Soon card for his buddy Blake and mail it to him since he had been absent from class for a week.
Additionally, he is so sweet to his baby brother, Arjun. Just yesterday we taught Krish how to pick up his shaak with his roti to make a bite, and after learning how, he proceeded to feed Arjun his dinner in this way.
Finally, Krish has also been learning about Change Makers (i.e. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mahatma Gandhiji) in class and how to be a Change Maker in this world and in your community. Following these great leaders' examples and in recognition of Kindness Month, Krish decided to ask for a donation to a charity he learned about and believed in in place of a traditional birthday present for his birthday this year. After researching various charities and asking Krish's thoughts, he decided to start a campaign to collect donations for Room to Read, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing literacy and formal education opportunities to children in developing countries in Asia and Africa.
We are so proud of Krish for his interest in learning about these causes and for supporting and believing in this particular cause. With his family and friends' help, this young mind can learn the power of support and the value of his beliefs. He can learn what a difference we can make when we all work together. And through this success, we hope he gains interest in learning about more ways he can help change the world. Although he's off to a great start, Krish is not the only one who has been thinking about acts of kindness this month. Arjun has also been involved by making Valentine's Day cards to thank the Veterans with our new play group! The kids really enjoyed getting crafty together, and Arjun was very excited to mail his cards to the Vets!
In addition to February being Kindness Month, we have been enjoying getting in the spirit of Valentine's!

And here is a cute, little Pinterest-inspired project to show the boys how much we love them and what we love about them! We just add a new heart and proclamation each day leading up to Valentine's. I have to admit, I have been having tons of fun with this one!
